Launch Sites


The following places are recommended launch points for your canoes or kayaks The locations are shown in order from the top of the river at Tonbridge to the bottom at Allington (nr Maidstone). Click on each title for their location.

Tonbridge Slipway. (3 stars) A small slipway at the end of Tonbridge Castle public car park, £4.50 per day. Note there is a height barrier into the car park.

Cannon Lane Bridge. (1 star) Weekends only, free but limited parking in the layby near to the bridge. Launch from a small section of low riverbank on the North side of the river (downstream side of the bridge). Can be muddy or overgrown.

Hartlake Bridge. (1 star) Free, limited parking either side of the bridge. Launch from underneath the bridge itself. Suits open, canadian type canoes only. Difficult for kayaks.

Yalding Canoe Platform. (4 stars) Free parking. Launch from a purpose designed canoe platform next to the road.

Hampstead Lock. (3 stars). Free but very limited parking. Launch from the slipway or adjacent canoe platform.

Teston Country Park. (2 stars). Car park is £1.50 per day. Note height barrier. Walk 100 metres across field and launch just upstream of the bridge. Steep bank, can be muddy.

East Farleigh. (1 star). Car park is the station car park. 100 metre walk to the riverside via kissing gate and road with no pavement. Ok for open canoes, not easy for kayaks.

Allington Lock.(5 stars)

Further Photos here. Excellent secure parking (£2.50 per day), toilets, & showers. Can also accommodate minibuses with trailers. Purpose designed launch platform and camping available on site.
